Adding your client to a job

Learn how to attach a client to a job and invite them to the client portal

Last updated

Attaching a client to a job is what turns a set of selections into a client portal.

Where to find it

On the job Summary tab, in the Details card on the left. If the job has no client attached yet you will see an Add Client button there.

Adding the client

Click Add Client and start typing. The search covers both your contacts and your companies, so you can attach an individual homeowner or a company depending on what suits the job. Select the right one and it is done.

If the person is not in your system yet, add them properly in Contacts first rather than creating a bare record with just an email address. The contact record is where their phone number, their lead source and their history live.

Once attached, the Details card shows their name, company, email and phone, along with an Unconfirmed badge. That badge stays until they have set up their password, so it doubles as your at-a-glance check on whether the client has actually made it in.

Sending their login

Use the dropdown on the client block in the Details card. There are five actions:

  • Send Login Setup, the first invitation, which emails your client a link to create their password. It only appears while the client is unconfirmed and disappears once they have set a password, so its absence is a useful signal that they are in.

  • Send Portal Link, sends the link again, for a client who has lost the email or needs a nudge back in.

  • Send Password Reset, for a client who is set up and cannot get back in.

  • Client Portal Settings, where you choose the tabs this client can see.

  • Remove Client, detaches them from the job, behind a confirmation.

Go into Client Portal Settings before you send anything. Choosing which tabs your client can see covers it.

What your client receives

Your client gets an email from the HomePulse system with a link to set their password, and once they are through it they land in a portal carrying your branding, with your logo or company name at the top and no HomePulse branding anywhere in it.

If you have not yet set up your account branding, account settings and branding your client portal covers it.

Check your sending email address carefully when you enter it, because if you mistype it there is currently no way to correct it yourself and you will need to contact us to sort it out. Read it twice before you save.

Test it on yourself first

Before you invite a real client, add yourself as the client on a test job using a personal email address, and go through the whole thing exactly as a homeowner would. Set the password from the email, log in, browse the areas, open a decision, choose a product.

Sending it to a real client

When you are ready for the real thing, send a short message from you first. The invitation email comes from a HomePulse address, so a client who has not been told to expect it may miss it.

What to do next

Open the portal and look at your own work. What your client sees when they log in.
