An area template holds the areas for one house design, arranged the way your client walks through the house. Loading it onto a job brings every area across at once instead of one at a time.

Before you start

A template picks from the areas already in your account rather than creating new ones, so set those up first with Creating your Area Types and Areas.

Settle how you are dividing up the house before you build templates on top of it. Three ways to define your areas compares the options.

Create the template

  1. Go to Templates, then Area Templates.

  2. Click New Area Template.

  3. Name it after the house type or range it covers, such as Standard Four Bedroom or Duplex Range.

  4. Save it and open it.

Add your areas

  1. Find each area in the Areas panel on the right, using the search box to narrow a long list.

  2. Click Add beside each area this house type has.

  3. Drag the areas into the order a person would walk through the house.

Jobs built from this template inherit that arrangement, and your client sees it in their portal navigation.

Load it onto a job

  1. Open the job and go to Selection Settings, then Areas.

  2. Click Add area template.

  3. Pick your template and click Append template.

The areas arrive as the template has them, with a header above naming the template you loaded. You can append a second area template later, and remove any template's areas with the × on its tag. Combining templates to produce a working selections portal covers loading all three templates together.

What to do next

Building a Selection Template adds the decisions that go into these areas. Most builders need only one or two area templates, and How many templates do you actually need helps you decide.
